Understanding the diverse needs of today’s students
As an Academic Coach specializing in Los Angeles independent schools, I know that every student learns differently. One-size-fits-all tutoring rarely works. My years in the classroom taught me how to read the subtle cues of where a student is stuck and what they need next, whether that’s breaking down a concept, offering structure, or pushing for deeper thinking. My doctoral research sharpened those instincts into a framework for tailoring support—helping students not just master content, but grow the habits, confidence, and perspective that last far beyond school.
My Background
I’ve spent more than 15 years teaching in elementary and middle school classrooms and now coach students directly. I hold an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy (CSUN) and teach future educators as a university lecturer and adjunct faculty. Alongside school-based roles, I’ve worked as a private writing coach and K–8 academic tutor. In and out of the classroom, I have supported hundreds of students across writing, reading, math, and study skills.
Past roles and experience includes:
- Classroom teacher & grade‑level lead in independent schools (upper‑elementary focus)
- University educator preparing credential candidates in assessment, backward design, and equitable instruction
- Literacy program work: task‑force member aligning OG‑informed phonics (UFLI) and expository writing curriculum
- Student programs: director/coach for Robotics and Student Council
- Research & writing: dissertation and articles on K–8 teaching and inclusive practice; recognized with university honors
Why Families Choose Me:
- I’ve stood in the classroom. Years of teaching give me firsthand insight into what teachers assign, why they assign it, and what “good work” looks like from their perspective.
- I specialize in diverse needs. I have a long track record working with emerging bilinguals, neurodiverse students, and those with ADHD or executive functioning challenges.
- I provide clear communication with parents and teachers so support is aligned and progress is visible
- I know how to unlock reluctant learners. By building confidence, structure, and momentum, I help students who feel stuck start to move forward.
- I see the whole student. From reluctant writers to advanced learners, I adapt support to fit each student’s strengths, challenges, and goals.
